Car Safety

Today Constable Jude came to talk to us about car safety. She had some important messages.

1. Always wear your seat belt - even if it's a short journey.
2. Always sit on our car or booster seat. We have to do this till we're 7 years old and it's best to use one until we are 148cm. No one in Room 13 is that tall yet!

We were very lucky because we all got to try on a police uniform and sit in the police car. We all practiced putting our seat belts on.

Swimming

It's our first swimming lesson today and it's lucky we are already wet in the pool, as it's raining.

Crossing the Road Safely - Week 4, Term 1

Today Constable Jude took us to Kelvin Road so we could practice crossing it safely.  We also practiced looking out for sneaky driveways.

To cross the road:
1. Make sure we are a step back from the curb.
2. Look left and right several times and listen for cars.
3. When it's safe, we step off the curb and walk quickly to the other side looking both ways as we cross.

Constable Jude told us, that even though we know how to cross the road, it's still best if we have an adult to help us.

Week 3

We have had a busy week - even having 3 different teachers!

Yesterday Constable Jude came to visit us to talk to us about keeping safe when crossing the road. She will come back next week to teach us some more.

In Music we have learnt how to sing a round and keep the beat.  Today we have learnt about body percussion. Sometimes it's hard to keep the beat steady - but it's really fun!

In maths, some of us have learnt about place value using pretend money to work out how many hundreds, tens and ones.  It's pretty tricky!
e.g $251 is 2x $100, 5x $10 and 1x $1.

Other groups have been learning about the family of facts.
e.g. 4+1=5  
       1+4=5
       5-1=4
       5-4=1

Another group has been trying to think how many different ways they can split a number into 2 groups.

e.g  6+6=12
     10+2=12
       9+3=12
       5+7=12
     11+1=12
     0+12=12

Week 2, Term 1

Last week we started learning about fractions. We are learning to label and colour fractions in.  This week we can practice our fractions using mathletics.

This week was also the start of our  Mandarin lessons.  We learnt how to say:

Hello: Nǐ hǎo
Thank you: Xiè xie
Teacher: Lǎo shī
