We had swimming sports today. For some of us, it was our very first time doing swimming sports. We all had two races. The first race was freestyle and the second race was backstroke.

Music - Tempo
Today in Music we learnt about tempo and beat. We found out how many beats we had in our names and then played claves in time to a song that changes tempo. We played them fast and we played them slowly. The hardest part was to stop when the music said "Stop". It was lots of fun!

Fat and Skinny Quesitons
Last week we learnt about fat and skinny questions. Skinny questions are questions that have one simple answer and fat questions are questions that require more thought to answer. Today we brainstormed everything we know about whanaungatanga and then thought of our own fat questions to research and discuss the answers to. Here are our questions:
·
What if
there was no water?
·
Why are
there connections?
·
What if
there was no food to eat?
·
Why can’t
everybody be your friend?
·
What if
we didn’t have a culture?
·
What if
there were no trees?
·
What if
there were no flowers?
·
What if
there were no houses?
·
What if
there was no life?
·
What if
there were no bees?
·
What if
there was no grass?
·
What if
there were no cars?

Whanaungatanga
We have been learning how 'whanaungatanga' means relationships. Today we explored how it also means 'connections'. There are lots of connections in Room 13 - we have heaps in common! We all have a sibling, we all like ice-cream and lots of us were born in New Zealand.
There are other connections too - like our connection with the environment. We know we need to look after the plants because we can not live without them. They give us oxygen, shade and food.

Maths - Number Bonds to Ten
Here is a fun game the students can try at home. It is important that they can instantly recall their number bonds to ten so that they can use these to work out more complex problems later. For those who find it easy, they could try number bonds to 20!
The number bonds to 10 are:
1 & 9
2 & 8
3 & 7
4 &6
5 & 5
0 & 10

The Worm Farm
Today Mrs Elmore taught us how to look after the worm farm. We learnt that worms are "magic munching machines"! We were very excited.
New bark in the Lorax Garden
