We are going to make cat and dog toys. Before we can do that we need to collect some materials to make them. Do you have any of the following to spare? (Please do not buy anything especially - this is just to supplement some of the supplies we have at school already).
* Old socks (preferably adult size)
* Old jerseys
* Plastic bottles (500ml-700ml size, old water bottles would be good)
* Material scraps
* Old T-shirts (must be plain, not the kinds with prints that may come off).
* Left over stuffing material
* Tissue paper
* Paper bags
If you have any of these and are happy to give it to be made into cat and dog toys for the SPCA please bring it to Room 13 over the next fortnight. Later on we will be asking for helpers to help us to make the toys - it will be so much fun!
Thanks,
Miss Esterman

Samoan Language Week
Yesterday we were so lucky to have the AUT Samoan Dance group perform for us. They taught us some call and response language used in a Sasa. We loved trying to do the clapping in time.

The Science Van
Yesterday we went to the hall to see a science show because it is Science Week. The show was all about bubbles. We learnt about mixtures. Some things like oil and water don't want to mix. If you shake them up they will still separate. Other mixtures like baking soda and vinegar cause a reaction. The gas it produced blew up a balloon.
We also learnt about dry ice or carbon dioxide. You can't seal it in a container because it turns from a solid to a gas. Gasses take up more room than solids. Sealing it in a container will cause the container to explode. It can be very dangerous.
We saw several different bubble mixtures. The scientists made little bubbles, big bubbles and enormous bubbles. It was very exciting!

Term 2
We have hit the ground running and time is flying! It is already Week 3. We have been very busy in Room 13. We have:
- Been tested on our spelling - Lots of us have really improved since last term. Many students have worked hard every week on their 5 spelling words.
- Completed an asTTle writing sample. This sample was a recount.
- Just started learning our multiplication skills. We are learning that 'x' means 'groups of' or 'sets of' and '=' means 'the same as'.
- Completed a fitness pre-test to see how far we can run in 5 minutes as part of the Fitness-a-thon. We are doing fitness every day at school to improve our stamina.
- Been learning how to write the numbers 1-10 in Mandarin.
